The National Center for Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA is a full-service cosmetic surgery center serving the Washington DC area. Under the leadership of board-certified physicians Dr. Alex Mesbahi and Dr. Mark Venturi, our clinic provides rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), face lift, and other cosmetic surgery procedures based on the most current techniques.
Rhinoplasty ("Nose Job")
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, can effectively address a wide range of cosmetic problems, including reducing the size of a nose that is too large or too wide, or correcting a prominent “hump” on the bridge of the nose. It can also be used to restore the nose following damage due to a sports injury or accident, or to correct breathing problems.
At our Washington DC area cosmetic surgery center, the rhinoplasty procedure generally takes from one to three hours and is performed under either local or general anesthesia, depending upon the individual patient. Most rhinoplasty procedures use one of two basic surgical methods, which are referred to as the ‘open’ and the ‘closed’ techniques. At the National Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Venturi or Dr. Mesbahi will discuss your options and needs and recommend the best technique for you.
Following rhinoplasty, Dr. Venturi and Dr. Mesbahi will recommend rest and limited activity to speed your recovery. A splint, bandages, and/or gauze will be applied to reduce nose movement. At our DC area cosmetic surgery center, rhinoplasty patients are also advised to minimize exposure to the sun for one year following surgery, to keep eyeglasses or sunglasses from resting on the bridge of the nose, and to refrain from smoking for several weeks before and after rhinoplasty. Patients who experience post-surgical pain are treated with oral medication and/or cold compresses. While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk of potential problems by carefully following the post-surgical directions given by the surgeon.
Face Lift
A face lift (Rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that can help correct the effects of stress, aging, sun, and gravity on the skin of the face and restore a more youthful, natural appearance. A face lift removes and realigns facial and neck skin, and may also remove excess fat. At our DC area cosmetic surgery center, face lift can be performed alone or in combination with other facial cosmetic procedures, depending on the needs and goals of our patients. While many of our face list patients are in their fifties or older, our DC area cosmetic surgery center also offers treatments tailored to the younger patient which focus on the cheekbone areas (mid-face lift) or the neck and jaw areas (lower face lift).
A face lift may take several hours or longer, depending on whether the face lift is performed alone or in combination with other procedures. Following surgery, the face is bandaged to keep swelling to a minimum and to speed recovery. Patients are advised to get plenty of rest and restrict movement. Stitches are usually removed within a week following surgery. Any post-operative discomfort can be treated effectively with oral medication. Complications from face lift surgery are rare, and patients can reduce their risk by carefully following post-op instructions.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) reduces dark circles or puffiness under the eyes, removes wrinkles around the eyes, and can restore a more youthful appearance to the face. Blepharoplasty may often be performed together with other facial procedures, such as a face lift or rhinoplasty (nose surgery), in the convenience and privacy of our DC area cosmetic surgery center. This procedure generally takes about one to three hours – longer if additional cosmetic procedures are being performed.
It is normal to experience swelling and bruising around the eyes following blepharoplasty. The fine sutures that are used in the procedure are usually removed after five days. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with blepharoplasty, which can be treated with oral medication. Complications from blepharoplasty are rare, and patients can reduce the risk of problems by following our post-operative directions carefully.
Ear Surgery
Prominent ears, or ears that do not lie close to the head, can be a source of embarrassment to children and adults alike. At our Washington, DC area cosmetic surgery center, the problem can be corrected with surgery of the ear, also known as otoplasty. The procedure is used to correct overly large ears, ears with congenital (birth) defects, or ears injured in an accident. Dr. Mesbahi and Dr. Venturi will discuss the various surgical techniques used in correcting ear irregularities with you, and determine which is best for your individual needs.
Post surgery, large bandages are wrapped around the head to speed healing and limit ear movement. Usually, the bandages are removed within a week and smaller bandages are applied. Patients are advised to rest and restrict movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. As with our other cosmetic surgery procedures, including face lift and rhinoplasty, oral medication may be used to treat pain and patients can reduce their risk of complications by following our post-operative instructions carefully.
Chin & Cheek Implants
Clients of our Washington DC area cosmetic surgery center come to us for chin and cheek implants to enhance their facial profile and improve the overall proportion and balance of the face. Chin implants allow us to shape and contour the symmetry of the face, particularly in cases where the chin is recessed or small, while cheek implants, also known as malar (high cheek) or submalar (low cheek) augmentation, can add fullness and definition to the face. We often perform cheek surgery together with a face lift. Both chin and cheek implant procedures normally last from 30 minutes to one hour.
After surgery, the face will be bandaged to keep swelling down and speed recovery. Patients are instructed to rest and restrict movement, and to keep their head elevated, in order to speed healing. Swelling or bruising may be treated with the application of cold compresses. If chewing is painful, a liquid diet may be needed for several days. As with our other cosmetic surgery procedures, including face lift and rhinoplasty, oral medication may be used to treat pain and patients can reduce their risk of complications by following our post-operative instructions carefully.
